LI Jiange
Chairman, China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC)
Vice Chairman, Central Huijin Investment Company Limited

Born in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, Mr. Li Jiange obtained his Bachelor of Science from the Department of Mathematics of Nanjing Normal University, and Master of Economics of the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

At present, Mr. Li is Chairman of China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC) and Vice Chairman of Central Huijin Investment Company Limited. Before he joined CICC, Mr. Li was Vice President (Vice Minister level) of Development Research Center (DRC) of the State Council. He had also worked as Deputy Director General of Policy Research Office of the State Planning Commission, Deputy Director General and then Director General of the Department of Policy and Regulation of the State Economic and Trade Commission, Chief of Staff of the Securities Commission of the State Council, Vice Chairman and then Executive Vice Chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission, Vice Minister of the State Council Office for Restructuring the Economic System.

He is concurrently professor and supervisor for PhD students at the Graduate School of both Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the People's Bank of China. He is also professor at Management School and Taiwan Institute of Tsinghua University. He won the Sun Yefang Prize for Economics in 1991, 1997, 2001 and 2009 respectively, and he has been trustee of Sun Yefang Foundation of Economics and member of its Awarding Committee.

 

YANG Xiaodu
Chairman, Shanghai Chinese Overseas Friendship Association

Yang Xiaodu, born in October 1953 in Shanghai, is a post-graduate of Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC. He is now a Standing Member of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, President of the Shanghai Chinese Overseas Friendship Association. He was once Deputy Administrative Commissioner of Naqu region and Changdu of Tibet Autonomous Region, Director of Finance Department of Tibet Autonomous Region, Vice-Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region Government and Vice-Mayor of Shanghai Municipality.

 

FAN Gang
Director, National Economic Research Institute, China Reform Foundation

Chairman, China Reform Foundation, and Director, National Economic Research Institute. Professor of Economics, Peking University HSBC Business School and the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Science. He got his Ph.D. in economics from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in 1988. He was visiting fellow of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and Harvard University, MA, USA, 1985-1987; senior research fellow and deputy director of Institute of Economics, CASS, 1992-1995; chief editor, Jingji Yianjiu (Economic Research Journal, monthly), 1992-1993; His publications include over 100 academic papers published in Chinese and English academic journals; and 12 books on Macroeconomics and Economics of Transition. He is also an advisor to various departments of Chinese Central government and provincial governments; guest professor of number of universities and graduate schools; and consultant to The World Bank, UNDP, OECD, etc. He received Docteur Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctor) from University of Auvergne, France, in 2004, and listed as one of “World’s Top 100 Public Intellectuals” jointly by Foreign Policy and Prospect, 2005 and 2008.

 

Lawrence J. LAU
Ralph and Claire Landau Professor of Economics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Professor Lawrence J. Lau received his B.S. degree (with Great Distinction) in Physics and Economics from Stanford University in 1964, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1966 and 1969 respectively. He joined the faculty of the Department of Economics at Stanford University in 1966, becoming Professor of Economics in 1976 and the first Kwoh-Ting Li Professor in Economic Development at Stanford University in 1992. From 1992 to 1996, he served as a Co-Director of the Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford University, and from 1997 to 1999, as the Director of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. He became Kwoh-Ting Li Professor in Economic Development, Emeritus, at Stanford University in 2006. From 2004 to 2010, Professor Lau served as Vice-Chancellor (President) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently Ralph and Claire Landau Professor of Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Professor Lau specialises in economic development, economic growth, and the economies of East Asia, including that of China. In 1966, he developed one of the first econometric models of China. He has authored, co-authored, or edited five books and published more than 160 articles and notes in international professional journals.

He is a Member of Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi, a Fellow of the Econometric Society, an Academician of Academia Sinica, Taipei, a Member of the Conference for Research in Income and Wealth, an Overseas Fellow of Churchill College, the University of Cambridge, an Honorary Senior Research Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and an Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. Professor Lau was awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa, by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1999. In 2007, he was conferred the degrees of Doctor, honoris causa, by Soka University and Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by Waseda University. In 2010, he was conferred the degree of Doctor of Management Sciences, honoris causa, by the National Central University, Taiwan. Professor Lau currently serves as an Executive Vice-Chairman of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, a Vice-President of the China Science Center of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and a Vice-Chairman of the China Society for Finance and Banking. He is an International Adviser to the National Bureau of Statistics of the People’s Republic of China, a member of the International Advisory Council of the China Development Bank, a member of the International Advisory Council of the China Investment Corporation, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, Taipei. He is also a member of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and a non-official member of the Executive Council of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He serves as Vice Chairman of CITIC Capital Holdings Limited, Hong Kong, a non-executive independent Director of CNOOC Limited, Hong Kong, and an independent Director of Far EasTone Telecommunications Co. Ltd., Taipei and Shin Kong Life Insurance Company Limited, Taipei.

 

LIU Changle
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited

Mr. LIU Changle is the founding Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited.

Ever since Phoenix Satellite Television was launched on 31 March, 1996, Phoenix TV has evolved into a multi-dimensional corporate group, with five television channels, an internet website (www.ifeng.com), a weekly magazine, an outdoor Mega LED business, and publishing, radio broadcasting and education projects.

Mr. LIU has won numerous awards for his great contribution to the Chinese TV industry as the media magnate who pioneered offshore broadcasting into Mainland China. He has been honored “Intellect of the Media”, a “leader of the global Chinese Television Program Providers”, “Most Creative Asia-Pacific Overseas Chinese Business Leader”, “the Most Socially Responsible Chinese Business Leader in the Asia Pacific Region”, “Prominent Person for Sculpturing Media Brand Award”, “Top 10 Entrepreneurs with Most Chinese Business Spirit Award”, “Man of Year for Asia Brand Innovation Award”, “Top 10 Elite Men of China” and “Persons of Chinese Charity Award”.

Mr. LIU also has received the Robert Mundell Successful World CEO Award, the “Entrepreneur in Media Industry Award” in “Ernst & Young’s China Entrepreneur 2006” and the “Man of Year for Asia Brand Innovation Award”.

Mr. LIU has been regularly appointed the Chairman of iEMMYs World Television Festival by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences since 2005. He was also the 2008 recipient of the International Emmy® Directorate Award. Mr. LIU Changle is the director of the Board of Nanjing University for the third consecutive term since 2003, and is also honorary visiting professor at many Universities in Mainland China. In November 2006, Mr. LIU received an Honorary Doctoral Degree from the City University of Hong Kong. In October 2009, Mr. LIU was invited to be the Chairman of the International Consultation Committee by School of Business, the City University of Hong Kong.

Mr. LIU is JP and a member of the National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He is presently serving as vice Chairman of the Subcommittee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports, of the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC. On 1 July 2010, Mr. LIU was newly awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

DAI Xianglong
Chairman, National Council for Social Security Fund, PRC

Mr. Dai Xianglong is the Chairman of the National Council for Social Security Fund, China, since Jan. 2008. From 2002 to 2007, he served as Deputy Secretary of CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and Mayor of Tianjin. From 1995 to 2002, he worked as Governor of the People's Bank of China and Deputy Governor from 1993 to 1995. He served as Deputy Secretary of CPC Central Finance Work Committee in 2001 and Chairman of the First Session of Monetary Policy Committee of the People's Bank of China in 1997. Before joining the central bank, he was Vice Chairman and President of the Bank of Communications as well as Chairman of China Pacific Insurance Co., Ltd from 1990 to 1993, Vice President of Agricultural Bank of China from 1985 to 1990. From 1979 to 1985, he was Deputy Director of Jiangsu Branch of Agricultural Bank of China, Deputy Director of Feng County, Jiangsu Province and then Vice President of Jiangsu Branch of Agricultural Bank of China. Prior to that, he was a worker in Guishan Coal Mine, Yunnan Province. Mr. Dai graduated from the Dept. of Accountancy, Central University of Finance and Economics, China.

 
Norman T.L. CHAN
Chief Executive, Hong Kong Monetary Authority

Mr. Norman Chan was appointed Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) on 1 October 2009. Mr. Chan joined the Hong Kong Government as an Administrative Officer in 1976 and became Deputy Director (Monetary Management) of the Office of the Exchange Fund in 1991. He was appointed an Executive Director of the HKMA when it was established in 1993. From 1996 to 2005, Mr. Chan served as Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA. During his 12 years with the HKMA, Mr. Chan steered a number of major financial policies and initiatives, including the development of Hong Kong’s financial infrastructure, the introduction of renminbi banking services in Hong Kong and the financial co-operation among central banks in the Asian region. He played a key role in the Government market operations in 1998 that helped maintain the stability of Hong Kong’s financial system.

From December 2005 to June 2007, Mr. Chan was Vice Chairman, Asia of Standard Chartered Bank. Prior to rejoining the HKMA, Mr. Chan was Director of the Chief Executive’s Office of the Hong Kong SAR Government from July 2007 to July 2009. He was the Founding Chairman of the policy think tank, the Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre established in 2006.
