Mr. Zhang Haizhou joined China Daily as a foreign affairs reporter in 2007. He was appointed Chief UK-based Correspondent in 2010 to become China Daily’s first-ever Europe-based reporter. He relocated to Hong Kong in 2014 and is now mainly in charge of the media group’s development in the ASEAN region. He initiated China-Philippines Dialogue in 2016 to enhance understanding and communications between China and the Philippines.
Mr. Zhang covers mainly international relations and China’s diplomacy. He has reported extensively China’s interactions with the ASEAN countries in the recent years. He has published many articles and opinions in both English and Chinese to advocate Sino-Filipino friendship.
Mr. Zhang has interviewed many state leaders and CEOs of multinational companies. He is the only Chinese reporter who has traveled to the disputed region of Abyei to report the military conflict between Sudan and South Sudan in 2011.
Mr. Zhang has given lectures on China’s soft power and national image building to the University of Oxford, London School of Economics and Political Science, and King’s College London. He holds a Master degree from the Department of War Studies, King’s College London, the UK.
